B & D’s Elopement at Kyhv Peak
In August, I had the sweetest honor of photographing B and D’s elopement at Kyhv Peak (formerly Squaw Peak) in Provo Canyon. This day was everything—intimate, adventurous, and filled with so many little moments that made me stop and think, wow, this is why I do what I do.
The Road Up
Let’s just get this out there—getting to Kyhv Peak is not for the faint of heart. It’s not the little overlook where everyone pulls over for a quick photo. You take a left at the fork and keep climbing. And that road? Rough. Like, potholes and ruts that’ll have you questioning your life choices kind of rough.
B and D drove their car up... and my husband and I also drove in ours. And listen… please don’t be like us. 😂 We made it, but it was bumpy, slow, and we were literally the only cars in the whole lot when we got there and our cars we FILTHY. If you’re planning an elopement here, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend an SUV or 4WD vehicle—it’ll make the drive way less stressful and way more fun. Think of it as part of the adventure.
At the Top
Once you step out, though? Totally worth every single bump in the road. There’s a short little hike (nothing wild, but definitely swap into comfy, hiking shoes first), and then suddenly it all opens up—rolling fields, mountain ridges stretching into forever, and the valley below glowing in the evening haze.
B and D came all ready to go, we took the short hike and we all just stood there for a moment, soaking in the view. Golden hour here is honestly stellar—the kind of light that wraps around you and makes everything feel like a movie.
Vows & Celebration
Their vows were simple, raw, and so heartfelt. Just the two of them, the mountain air, and promises whispered as the sky turned gold. It felt like the whole mountain belonged to them, and I swear even the breeze disappeared and quieted down to listen.
Then came the fun— laughing until their cheeks hurt, and dancing in the grass. When the sun started to set, they wrapped up together in each others arms, completely in their own little world. It was fab in every sense of the word—laid-back, joyful, and totally them.
Why Kyhv Peak is Rad for Elopements
- Privacy: We had the place to ourselves, well pretty much. No crowds, no noise—just pure peace.
- Views: Whether it’s summer green, fall golds, or winter snow, the scenery here is next-level.
- Adventure: The drive and short hike add just the right amount of thrill without being overwhelming.
- Golden Hour Glow: Sunrise or sunset, the light here is chef’s kiss.
More Than Just “I Do”
That’s what I love about elopements like B and D’s—it’s not just about saying vows. It’s about making a whole memory out of it. From the bumpy road up (which we laughed about later) to the shared newlywed cozy snuggles, the day was theirs start to finish.
And honestly? That’s what makes it so rad. Because when you look back at your photos, you’re not just remembering how it looked—you’re remembering how it felt.
